Dubai visa for Nigerians: current status, fees and transit rules
Short answer: Nigerians need a UAE visa approved before travel: there is no visa on arrival. You apply through a UAE sponsor, such as the airline you fly with, a licensed hotel or agent, or a relative living in the UAE. Dubai's official fee is AED 200 (30 days) or AED 300 (60 days) plus VAT and the sponsor's charge. In mid-2026 the UAE ambassador said Nigerians were no longer being refused, but some reported 2025 conditions are unclear, so confirm them with your sponsor before you pay.

How to get a Dubai visa from Nigeria
- Check that your passport is valid for at least 6 months and that you have a return or onward ticket and UAE-valid travel medical insurance.
- Choose a sponsor channel: the UAE airline you are flying with (e.g. Emirates or flydubai visa service), a licensed UAE hotel or tour operator, or an authorised travel agency. Visiting family who live in the UAE can usually sponsor a visit visa instead.
- Ask the sponsor about the current conditions for Nigerian passports before you pay. Reported 2025 rules (age 18–45 solo restriction, US$10,000 monthly balance for 45+) may or may not still apply.
- Submit the passport copy, photo and supporting documents through the sponsor and pay the visa fee plus their service charge. GDRFA's official fee is AED 200 (30 days) or AED 300 (60 days) plus 5% VAT.
- Get the approved e-visa before you fly and carry a printed copy. Airlines check it at check-in.
- Transiting through Dubai or Abu Dhabi: if you stay airside you do not need a transit visa. If you want to leave the airport, you need a pre-approved 48/96-hour transit visa from the airline. Reports since July 2025 say these are not being issued to Nigerians, so confirm with your airline.

Tips
- Apply only through a UAE airline, licensed hotel, authorised agent or official government channel. Be wary of websites selling 'DVN' or verification numbers; the UAE side said the DV hub site was not affiliated with the UAE government. thecable.ng
- Buy UAE-valid travel medical insurance before applying. GDRFA lists it as a condition for the tourist visa. gdrfad.gov.ae
- On a connection through Dubai, plan to stay airside. A transit visa is only needed to leave the airport, and reports say Nigerians may not be able to get one. u.ae

Common questions
Can Nigerians get a Dubai visa in 2026?
Applications are being processed again. In May/June 2026 the UAE ambassador said visa concerns were 'largely resolved' and Nigerians were no longer being refused. You still need a visa approved before travel through a UAE sponsor (airline, hotel, licensed agent or a UAE-resident relative). Some agents and guides still describe tighter conditions, so confirm with your sponsor.
How much is a Dubai tourist visa?
The official GDRFA Dubai fee is AED 200 for 30 days or AED 300 for 60 days, plus 5% VAT. Airlines, agents and hotels add service charges, so the price you pay will be higher.
Can I get a Dubai visa on arrival with a Nigerian passport?
No. Nigerian ordinary passports are not eligible for visa on arrival or visa-free entry. You must have an approved visa before you fly, and airlines can refuse boarding without one.
Do Nigerians need a transit visa for Dubai?
Only if you want to leave the airport. Transit visas (48 or 96 hours) are sponsored by UAE airlines, travel agents or airport hotels and must be approved before arrival. Nigerian media reported in July 2025 that Dubai stopped taking transit visa applications for Nigerians, and we found no official confirmation either way. Plan to stay airside unless your airline confirms you can get one.
Is it true Nigerians aged 18–45 can't get a Dubai visa?
This was reported in July 2025, from a Dubai immigration notice shared with travel agents: under-45s travelling alone ineligible, and 45+ needing US$10,000 monthly balances. The UAE never published it publicly. In 2026 the UAE ambassador said Nigerians are no longer being refused, but did not say whether the age rule ended. Ask your sponsor.
