About Murtala Muhammed International Airport
The airport is in Ikeja, Lagos State, and is run by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), apart from the MMA2 domestic terminal, which is privately run by Bi-Courtney. Its original international terminal opened in 1979 and the new Terminal 2 opened on 22 March 2022.
In 2024 the airport handled 4.3 million international passengers, up from 4.04 million in 2023 (FAAN figures). Lagos to Abuja is the busiest route from the domestic side.

Lagos airport terminals
International and domestic flights use different parts of the airport, about 1 km apart and not connected inside security. If you are connecting between a domestic and an international flight, allow time to transfer by road.
International: Terminal 1 (the 1979 terminal) was damaged by fire on 23 February 2026 and closed fully from March 2026 for a 22-month rebuild. Departures now check in at a temporary departure hall of about 8,000 m² next to Terminal 2 (20 check-in desks, 3 gates), joined to Terminal 2 by a covered walkway; all international arrivals use Terminal 2. After the temporary hall flooded on 28 June 2026 some airlines briefly used Terminal 2, then returned to the temporary hall.
Domestic: domestic flights leave from MMA2, privately run by Bi-Courtney, which says it handles about 75% of Lagos domestic departures, or from MM1, also called GAT or the old domestic terminal, run by FAAN. Your airline or booking tells you which one.
Getting to Lagos airport
Taxis at FAAN airports work through FAAN's official taxi rank system (ACHRAMS); agree the fare before you set off. FAAN suspended ride-hailing at its airports on 30 July 2026; Bolt was cleared to return in late August 2026, and Uber stopped operating in Nigeria on 2 September 2026.
